Don't be afraid of the dark

Our bedroom is quite big. Too big really. If our flat had been divided out differently it could have been a two bedroom flat rather than one. It's the one room that has never felt quite right, despite loving most things in there.

One issue has always been the fitted cupboards that we are desperate to change but isn't high on the list. It also doesn't get much sunlight, just a bit early evening. So we decided to embrace this and chose Farrow and Ball downpipe for the walls. In the past I have not been a huge fan of Farrow and Ball. They have some lovely colours but some of their products just aren't that great and mark easily but after trying a huge variety of greys from warm (too mushroom) to almost black, it came out as our favourite.

The room feels more intimate and waking in the morning is like being gently hugged awake (so says i am cheapskate). It is soothing but dramatic. We painted up to the ceiling and over the picture rail which accentuates the height and the contrast against the white really adds visual interest. All our furniture seems to have come alive. Even the fitted cupboards don't look so bad now.
