I am sure that the work of Charlotte Mann is familiar to most people but I have only just discovered her amazing work. Charlotte is known for her gorgeous wall drawings that are made at a scale of 1.1. Her work really makes you look twice and I think is very much a modern take on trompe l'oeil. Trompe l'oeil (trick of the eye) was given its name in the Baroque period but it goes back as far as the Roman and Greek times. Extremely realistic paintings work by creating an optical illusion that make them appear in 3D and can be used to make a room appear larger than it is. This can be done for instance by depicting a doorway or a window with scenes beyond and playing around with perspective.

The detail of Charlotte's work, which is usually created on a white background with a black marker, really creates space or the idea of space. How amazing would it be to commission her to create something amazing in your home!
